Subeca has partnered with the Kinneloa Irrigation District to bring LoRaWAN-based smart water metering where cellular communications failed.
Here at Subeca, we’re proud to announce that we have partnered with the Kinneloa Irrigation District (KID) to provide a smart metering solution that operates on a LoRaWAN that features AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN. This innovative product enables KID and its customers to remotely and securely capture data where other technologies didn’t perform well.
The smart meter technology we’ve provided will allow KID to assist their customers in monitoring and managing water usage, which gives them the ability to proactively detect inefficiencies, identify potential leakage points, and reduce overall water waste.
Why Kinneloa Irrigation District Chose Subeca
Kinneloa Irrigation District chose Subeca for its advanced meter infrastructure project due to our ability to provide reliable and secure communications, even in challenging terrain. The cellular-based AMI that KID had previously used completely failed, leaving them in need of an effective solution quickly.
With Subeca’s retrofit installation, our team was able to get their network up and running quickly and without disruption to consumer water service. Our technology can provide long-term savings in both time, money, and resources for the KID team.
How Our Smart Meters Help Water Districts
Subeca’s smart meters are helping water districts all over California meet their smart meter infrastructure and conservation goals. Our LoRaWAN-based smart meters can be installed quickly, without interruption of water service or the need to change a meter reading for billing purposes.
We provide our partners with invaluable and innovative technology that meets their needs. For instance, our partners have seen dramatic improvements in their ability to monitor and manage district-wide water use, capture meter readings remotely, study analytics, and troubleshoot anomalies to provide better service and more cost-effective solutions to their consumers.
Subeca’s consumer portal, launching in KID later in 2023, also allows these water districts to better engage with their customers and give them the power to monitor, adjust, and manage their consumption patterns and spot potential leaks. We use LoRaWAN gateways with AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN cloud services—meaning that our partners can cost-effectively keep track of data with frequency to make informed decisions for their consumers.
The Future of Water Meter Technology
The adoption of open network smart water meters is just the beginning. As technologies such as Amazon Sidewalk advance, we will continue to see new ways to reduce the cost of smart metering systems, provide communications reliability for geographically challenging areas, all while increasing access to granular data for both suppliers and consumers.
Advanced analytics platforms are already being used by many of our partners to provide greater insights into their networks for better decision-making processes. Frequent, reliable data is the key to assisting water suppliers in understanding water consumption.
Kinneloa Irrigation District’s adoption of Subeca‘s advanced meter infrastructure with AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN is just one way water districts can benefit from smart metering technology.
We are proud to be a part of this project and look forward to continuing our work with the KID team and other water districts. We strive to make a positive difference in the way we monitor and manage our water consumption.
